Please note that this initiative, including all supporting research and documentation, took place between June 2021-February 2022. The library contains promising practices identified during that time, but may not reflect current data or outcomes from these efforts. If you have questions or would like further information, please contact us.

Approach

Exemplars in Global Health and India COVID SOS have identified emerging promising practices in COVID-19 patient care and pandemic management, curating a set of case studies that highlight interventions driving meaningful outcomes across India.

These case studies span the full COVID-19 patient journey and reflect critical decisions and actions that have led to successes at various levels of the health care system amidst the challenges of India’s second COVID-19 wave.

Distributed broadly to support decision makers in various health care settings, these case studies will enable leaders to leverage promising practices and adapt them to their contexts, as part of their ongoing pandemic response.

1. Collection
2. Curation
3. Dissemination

To create a library of promising practices that support decision makers and managers at the facility, district, state, and national levels, we follow a three-step process:

Collection of promising practices: We identify bright spots from reviewing the news media as well as published peer-reviewed and grey literature. We then conduct primary and secondary research by reviewing available documentation and interviewing key experts related to each promising practice.

Curation of promising practices. Vet narratives with a panel of technical experts, including researchers, engineers, physicians, and epidemiologists. Review criteria includes:

  • Relevance of practice to project objectives
  • Sufficiency of data and metrics
  • Clinical accuracy according to standard practice and guidelines (if applicable)

Support adaptation and replication of promising practices: By disseminating these promising practices widely, we hope to encourage relevant stakeholders to engage with the network of experts to adapt and replicate these practices in new contexts.

COVID-19 Management Framework

We created a COVID-19 Management Framework to identify and categorize promising practices within the context of this initiative. The framework spans interventions that directly impact the patient journey of those with COVID-19 as well as systems-level interventions that impact the ability to effectively manage the pandemic. All case studies are tagged with the relevant topics and sub-topics from the framework. Tags are not mutually exclusive - a practice could cover multiple topics within the framework - and help to identify the types of interventions described in the narratives.
