Operational Excellence in COVID-19 Management

Numerous stories of excellence in COVID-19 operations and management have emerged across the country. These bright spots cut across the various aspects of the patient journey - resource allocation, hospital management, triaging processes, oxygen capacity planning, and health workforce training and communication. Key Learnings

  1. Decentralizing management of testing, contact tracing, hospital admissions and oxygen allocation improved the ability of officials to triage and allocate resources effectively
  2. Advance planning for increased oxygen supplies prevented bottlenecks and rational management of oxygen for those with moderate disease conserved supplies 
  3. Leveraging real-time data ensured contact tracing of patients and monitoring of bed occupancy, oxygen availability and vaccination progress
  4. Communicating scientific data with expedience and transparency: Weekly and daily reports based on granular data help the government to make policies and educate the public on the real incidence
